Dr. Chen graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, then earned her Medical Degree from Stanford University School of Medicine before completing her general surgery internship and ophthalmology residency at UCSF. Dr. Chen's pursuit of excellence in ophthalmology continued with subspecialty training in Cornea, External Diseases, and Refractive Surgery at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, widely recognized as the leading eye hospital in the United States.
Under the mentorship of world-renowned experts in the field, Dr. Chen honed her skills in providing state-of-the-art cataract surgery with a range of specialty lenses; performing complex surgeries including lens exchange with fixation to the eyewall, repair of traumatic injuries, and artificial iris implantation; and managing cornea and ocular surface diseases via partial-, full-thickness, or artificial corneal transplantation, stem cell transplantation, pterygium excision, and ocular surface reconstruction. She also leverages the experience gained teaching surgery to ophthalmology trainees during fellowship in her role now as faculty instructor at UCSF.
